Chris McLelland is a transactional, corporate/commercial and oil and gas lawyer with Burstall LLP. He acts in domestic and cross-border transactions and drafts, reviews and negotiates a variety of commercial agreements, including upstream, midstream and downstream contracts in the oil and gas industry.
Before joining Burstall LLP, Chris practiced at a Calgary-based international law firm and in‑house at a private forensic engineering and consulting firm.
Chris regularly advises companies in the area of risk management and liability transfer. He acts for both operators and contractors in the procurement of oilfield services and vendor management and advises in the areas of project development, management, and infrastructure.
Chris has litigation experience and has represented clients in interlocutory motions and trials. He is a member of the insurance litigation group at Burstall LLP and advises on insurance claims pertaining to the oil and gas industry. Chris has advised in a joint legal/technical capacity on a variety of claims, including coverage, defence and subrogation, involving failed drilling operations.
Chris also advises secured creditors and distressed companies with respect to insolvency and restructuring options including developing strategy to enforce secured interests, initiate insolvency proceedings and protect directors and officers.
